Having a spinal cord injury is very very expensive, and I am so grateful to have foundations like The Be Perfect Foundation, who are able to help financially with these costs! I just want to thank everyone who has and will continue to donate to me and to Be Perfect. Your generosity goes a very long way and I am so appreciative to all of the donors who help support the cause!

Hi, my name is Kylie Bahne! On April 22, 2020, I was with 2 of my friends when I attempted to do a somersault, immediately leaving me paralyzed from the chest down. I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and taken into emergency surgery, and I  was diagnosed with an incomplete spinal cord injury at the C6/c7 level. This happened right after everything had shut down from Covid, when I was away at college, 10 hours from home. I thankfully was able to get in contact with my parents and they were able to hop on the plane the next day to be with me in the hospital. I was in the ICU for 2 1/2 weeks and was then transported back to my hometown of San Diego where I was in inpatient rehab for 2 1/2 months.

This injury has come with many ups and downs. Struggling with anxiety and PTSD is not something I wish on anyone! But on the positive, I have met amazing people and accomplished things I wasn’t sure I ever could do again! I was able to graduate with my Bachelors in Public Health, and gain a new perspective on what kind of career path I may want to take in the future, one that betters the lives of people living with a disability! Physically, doctors were not able to give any prognosis but I am so grateful I have gained some strength back in my lower extremities and am able to walk some steps with a walker, something no one thought I would be able to do.

Be Perfect has provided financial assistance to have hand controls installed in my car, so that I can regain that part of my independence back and not have to rely on family and friends to get around. I am so excited to have them installed and to be able to even just go watch the sunset by myself and relax.
